Rat City Rukkus Car Show 2016

Yesterday I was joined by my friend, SpiderElla and we made our way over to the annual Rat City Rukkus car show. The wind was out of control for the first half of the day and brought with it a chilly breeze. I, as usual, did not dress for the day and was chilly for most of the day.

We met up with a couple of SpiderElla's friends who were working a booth and spent a lot of time hanging with them. Sadly, I didn't really get any pictures of the cars as we were having too much fun chatting away.

We were able to make a loop through the car show and take a look at the amazing rods. The parking lot was full of hot rods, rat rods, and bikes. Listened to some rockin' bands and watched the pinup contest. Met the guys from Vegas Rat Rods on Discovery. I totally wanted to bang flirt with Steve Darnell from the show, but he had no interest in me, so I guess I'll have to go back to stalking fangirling lusting admiring Seth MacFarlane. We even spotted Pee Wee riding around on his bike! Ha ha!

Here are the small amount of photos from the day! Enjoy!

Lost in the 50's Spring Car Show 2016!

What's up, DudeBros!

I absolutely love car show season! Taking a look at everyone's cars that they put so much pride and work into makes me happy. Taking pictures of these cars makes me happy. Seeing the people just enjoying a casual outing makes me happy. It all just makes me happy!

I almost didn't make it to this show today! My friend, whom I was originally supposed to attend with, had a friend visiting and had to cancel. Luckily for me, my pal, Ricardo Montalbum likes muscle cars and enjoys car shows as well!

We arrived later than I had hoped -- but caught the very tail end of the pinup show when the winners were announced. I'm friends with the judges, Darby Fox and Sarah Vamp so I chatted with them after the contest for a bit and Darby introduced me to the winner, Ronnie von Sweets. I also ran into some other pinup pals of mine, Dee Dee Cupcake, Sydney Sparkles (The Aussie Plus Size Barbie), & Synthia Sterling. I even ran into a gal that recognized me from The Fedora Lounge! Hah! Can you believe that?!

Ricardo and I were only there for a couple of hours but we had a lot of fun! Took some pictures which makes me want a real camera more than ever as my camera phone doesn't quite cut it when it comes to the artistic direction of car photos. Not to mention, I can't see the screen when it's so bright out, so my car photos aren't even composed nicely.

We listened a bit to King vs Cash before heading out as the sun had drained me of my energy.

I am including a photo I took of my hair after I returned home as the sun wasn't as bright and my hair wasn't being blown out in the photos.

Do the Poodle! OOTD HOTD

Sometimes when you are trying to get pictures of your OOTD and HOTD, you just have to cheese it up!!

I decided to sport the "Betty Grable Poodle" today after seeing nothing but poodle dos in a vintage hair group for the past 2 weeks. I haven't worn my hair this way in many years -- not since I last filmed my how I do tutorial. It was slightly more difficult this time around as my hair is shorter. I had to MacGyver it with a ponytail! I added the detachable bow from my Arthelia's Attic navy snood for the final Betty Grable touch!

If you want to see how I make this look happen, check out my 2 part tutorial!

Mums the Word

I decided to take advantage of the great weather and do a quick photoshoot! I am currently borrowing a friend's older model camera and cannot wait to save up to get my own new one of my own!! Preferably one with a remote so I can snap pictures of myself without having to set the timer and run and get settled in between each shot!

Lemon Zest

Yesterday I had some errands to run. After wearing perm rods in my hair all day the day before and sleeping with them in overnight, I was quite happy to take them out! After brushing out my hair and realizing my hair did not set in the way I wanted, I brushed it through as much as I could and made it somewhat presentable. I highly doubted that the people taking my money for my bills really cared how my hair looked. I was wrong! More on that in a minute.

Before the rain and humidity blew my hair up.

I wore one of my favourite summer playsuits! Perfect for riding my bike around town giving away all my money doing my errands. I made the playsuit from a vintage 1940s pattern. The polka dot sun top underneath is homemade from the 1970s. It doesn't fit me properly alone, but provides the coverage I need under this playsuit!

The day started out hot and sunny. So by time I biked to my first stop, I was dripping sweat. I was happy for my sunscreen, but afraid it wasn't go to do much good for very much longer. By time I reached my 3rd destination on bike, the dark clouds started to roll in and the wind was picking up. With the impending rain looming overhead, both the counter gals at destinations 3 and 4 were actually concerned about the rain coming down and ruining my hair. I was both surprised and flattered.

While I didn't get caught in a downpour... I did get hit with a few sprinkles of rain and an up kick of wind. By time I got home after destination 6, my hair had dropped and fluffed out. Thank you humidity.

I thought I would put some comparative side by side photos of how my hair started out today and how it ended up yesterday. Thanks to my hair becoming HP Fluff and Puff, I added a hair flower to disguise the kinked ridge in my hair from the set last night. It was fine earlier when brushed back, but now... there is no fighting it. Obviously I had some time on my hands so I decided to make this second shoot a little bit more professional versus just using my camera phone for the earlier shots.

Sun top - Homemade from the 1970s

Lolita Haze by Minert Photography

Recently, I got back into doing some pinup "modelling". All I can say is BOY, AM I RUSTY!! I had a lot of fun and I realized that I missed playing pretend in front of the camera. I was a stiff turd for sure! Here is one of the first images to come from the shoot. This one is a bit darker than the rest, but one I like. Hope you enjoy!

Amber Joy's Pinup Pageant!

Last month I got to take part in the 1st Annual Pin Up Pageant put on by Amber Joy's Vintage Closet.

Unfortunately, I asked to host a bit too late, but I was happy that Amber found an active role for me as the Raffle Girl. :) Simply stating, I sold the raffle tickets and picked the tickets. Although I was the raffle girl, I did steal the microphone away from the host a few times. Sorry Scott!

I really had a blast and was honored to be part of such an amazing event that drew in 250 people and 20 pinup girls in the actual contest.

Celebrity Judges; Tom Ingram (Viva Las Vegas),  Cleen Rock One (Inkmasters), Cha Cha Velour (Live Burlesque in Las Vegas), Jasmine of Vintage Vandalizm, Dusty Summers (Burlesque Legend)
I was supposed to wear my Burlesque costume, but sadly couldn't find part of it, so I ended up just wearing a dress I had made a few years go. Even though I had brought heels to change into, I completely forgot about them and ended up staying in my jellies all night -- something my back was happy with. Plus the neon green actually matches the chartreuse in the print perfectly! Much better than trying to match the two different blues from the dress and my heels.

I have no idea why this face... perhaps I am super excited to be photographed with Tom Ingram...
Proprietress, Amber Burkhart, held her cool and looked beautiful through the night, though I know she was highly overwhelmed by taking on such a task of putting on her first pinup pageant! It's a lot more work than just showing up!

Proprietress Amber Burkhart

All the gals were gorgeous and were such a treat to watch as they both nervously and confidently strutted their stuff on the catwalk. Here are just a few of the pinups!

Congratulations to all the contestants and winners!

The 1st Amber Joy's Vintage Closet Pinup Pageant Winner!
Top 3 with the Judges
The fantastic vintage songstress, Lianna Haynes (red sparkled corseted dress) placed Top 5!

The winner with the Judges and Amber!
Top 5 with Amber (and Jasmine).
The selection of pictures was stolen from Amber's Facebook and they were all taken by DMR Depictions.

Thank you again, Amber, for having me part of your team for this truly spectacular event!

Perhaps I should enter next year with this winning Pinup Pose!
