Dreaming of Gingham ~ A Gingham Inspiration Post

Recently, my friend gave me a bunch of fabric that her tia had before her passing. The majority of the fabric was from the 80s, mostly calico flowers, which I love. Then there were a bunch of various colors of gingham!

Gingham is one of those fabric prints that automatically feel "vintage". It often transcends the wearer to simpler times gone by, on the farm or in a field, back to days of youthful joy. The summer sun shining down on you... Winter hasn't even arrived yet and I am already dreaming of Summer again.

The solid blocking may help me with my limited amount of fabric!

Unfortunately, the fabric pieces I received are mostly remnants and it is doubtful I will be able to make a whole outfit or even a dress out of them. Not to mention, because they are "newer" they are made of a poly fabric and not a cool and airy cotton. This of course, did not stop me from searching for some fashion inspiration. Looking for some possibilities of what I could make with the amount I had per color (and gingham size) and what I would love to make if I had enough fabric. I found some wonderful inspiration, including some from fellow bloggers who can be seen wearing either genuine vintage gingham or self made gingham fashions.

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do. Now to figure out what I can make while dreaming of Summer days (all while it is still in the low 80s here in Las Vegas - in November!)

If I make this suit, does a man come with it too?

Shit I Thrifted (and really don't need) - Episode 2

Continuing my nearly weekly series (despite my bank accounts protests) I bring to you episode 2 of Shit I Thrifted (and really don't need).

~Craft Flowers: Will be used for crafts and hair flowers.
~Original Toll House Cookie Tin: Research shows this was from 1987, so my suspected dating age was a bit off.
~Craft Foam: Was intended to use in a craft project, but currently being used as a base to stick skewers in to dry other craft projects on.
~Magnetic Box with Stars: Patiently waiting for me to find the right things to store in it.
~Blue & Green Filagree Box: Housing my wax stamp supplies in nicely.
~Holly Holiday Tin: Will be used to give a friend's Christmas gift in.
~70's Golden Homco Wall Hangs: Residing in my bathroom while waiting to be listed for sale. I want to keep them, but I will sell them and then rebuy the whole set.
~Care Bears Collector's Plate: Politely waiting for me to list him for sale. I decided to sell him as I don't have the room or matching style to display him. *Ugly cries*
~Wicker Basket: Currently holding holiday crafts, but will be filled with sewing goodies once my crafts are completed.
~Gold Frame: Waiting to be crafted.
~Long Rectangle Frame: Also waiting to be crafted.
~Bird and Flower Art: Needs to be researched more. I am undecided if I will keep or list.
~Cloche: Sitting next to my ducking. I need just one more item for my mounting and once that is done, I can start and complete that project.
