Totally 80s

Hi Lovelies!!

If any of you know me just a little bit, you know that my love of the 80s is right up there with the 40s.  For the last couple months I have been on an 80s kick that has intensified this past week. I figure most of you that follow my little ol' blog here follow because of our similar love of the 1940s, so I didn't want to bore you with my 80s wave I am in.



But in order to give a quick update and not pulling a Houdini, again, I just wanted to do a quick picture post on what I am finding inspirational right now... and that is the 1980s. Most specifically, the BIG ASS HAIR!

Bombshell! A Tutorial!

Really? Where has all the time gone?? I have FINALLY made the video tutorial I promised back at Easter time when I posted this photo of my hair.

Although it took me awhile to get to a tutorial I am happy that I finally did it. I hope you are too. I got very little sleep the night before, so I both look like poopy butt and my personality is as dull as my wall and matching shirt. For that, I apologize and hope you still find the tutorial helpful.

Otherwise, here is a very basic step by step.

*Lightly use your favourite setting lotion on each section that you roll.*

**I did this set on completely dried hair only misted with setting lotion on each section.**

***Make sure you give your hair adequate time to set so your set doesn't either brush out completely, or droop after a short amount of time. Setting time will vary from person to person depending on your hair's attributes (length, thickness, texture).***

Step one: Section off 2 rows, temple to temple, and take a large blue/green perm rod rolling each section down (tightly) towards the head, rolling backwards, away from the face.

Step two: On each side of the face, section from the top of the ear up to the part and roll the smaller purple rod vertically towards the face.

Step three: Randomly roll the peach and/or purple rods up to ear length on the rest of your hair. Rods can be rolled up or under, it is not important which direction, just that the rest of the hair is curly.

 

Step 4: Let the hair set. I recommend either an over night set or use of a bonnet dryer. Either way, give your hair time to dry and set. If using a bonnet dryer, blast the set with the cold or cool setting for the last 5-15 mins. This will help solidify the set.

Step five: Remove the the bottom rods followed by the side and then the top rods.

Step six: Do a proper brush out and brush the top section back and then to the side. Brush the sides back. Your hair will be frizzy or fluffy to start, but keep brushing and shaping your hair until you get the desired look. Don't be afraid to play with your hair and shape it. Note: Hard bristle paddle brushes with break up the curls, soft bristle brushes will help shape and smooth the curls. Don't be afraid to use more than one brush!

Step seven: Spritz some hair spray to hold your style.

Step eight: Own the world like the beautiful starlet you are!

Just a quick update!

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to update you all.

I took off that blasted word verification from the comments. I know what a pain in the butt it can be when you just want to leave a comment so I hope this will encourage my dear readers to start leaving comments again. I do miss reading your replies!! Please come back. :)

I can now be found on Instagram! I am really enjoying having an account there and sharing pictures that may not be worthy of a whole blog post. Mostly though, I enjoy seeing and perusing other vintage lovers' photos! So if you have an Instagram follow me! I am TheLolitaHaze.

The weather is maybe starting to spring up here in this less than desirable town. As great as that is... my heart is still longing to move to Vegas. I am getting closer to saving up enough to move... so hopefully that will happen sooner than later!

I finally finished a blouse I started months ago using fabric I bought 7+ years ago. Hahaha nothing like a timely finished project. Starting to sew again has brought me a lot of self motivation and I am enjoying the creative outlet and spill over it has been giving me.

I will share with you my next project! I bought this dark navy (almost black) sheer fabric with white polka dots and red bows. I found two styles of dresses that will be perfect for the material. I know I want to add matching velvet(een) bows so both of these styles would be nice. Trying to decide between the two, I think I will go with the colored one on the left. I also like the ribbon belt it has. Now I don't have patterns for either of these dresses, so I am going to just try and draft my own. By draft, I don't mean anything fancy with fancy sewing skills... I just mean try to figure it out with what sewing "smarts" I already have. Which will mean many muslins and many months til completion!

So that is about all I have to share with you at the moment. I hope people haven't abandoned me completely. I do enjoy sharing with you all and being inspired by you!

HOTD Easter Sunday

Yesterday was lovely. I spent the evening having dinner with Perry. Since it was also Viva weekend that we were obviously not attending, we decided to watch Viva Las Vegas with Elvis and Ann Margret.

I only had time to set my hair for a couple of hours so I decided to do a loose wave set with a high arching front. I was afraid with only 2 hours my hair would fall straight, but thankfully a nice wave formed and with a little bit of hairspray my hair was set.

My outfit was a blouse I made last year from a 40s pattern and vintage fabric given to me. My slacks were my good ol pair that I made years ago from a 40s pattern. A simple outfit. Nothing fancy, but with spring trying so hard to get out from under the covers of winter, I just had to have something light and bright to wear. Being that it was just spending time with Perry, there was no need to get Easter dressed up.
