Sewing Patterns

I recieved 2 sewing patterns today from a friend of mine. The first and most important is a men's shirt pattern. I am going to try to make a shirt for Perry out of it! So I need to get a lot of muslin because there are a few things I want to make for him! I'll start with this pattern though. The excitement of making him a shirt, however, posessed me to purchase 2 more men's shirt patters online, one being a western shirt. I don't know why, but that guy likes western shirts.

The second pattern is a pajama pattern. Althought it is meant for sleepwear, I am assuming I can turn it into work clothes if I make it out of heavy twill or something of the like. I have seen 2 piece yardwork clothes for the ladies in catalogs so, I am hoping with a slight bit of altering with an added halter top of sorts, I can make a nice dirty work outfit for this upcoming spring.

If you are all wondering what happened to my first sewing project from this post, let me update you. The pattern size was way smaller than expected. I am guessing it is a 12. I am an 16 18. So until I slim myself down like my sister Ginger, that project has been shelved.

I am however in the middle of another sewing project. I should make a seperate post about that one even though I have started. I got held up with the collar and must wait for the next sewing date to figure it out -- thanks to me thinking interfacing and facing were the same thing. Oy! It will be a great time to take photos too! Yay!

Hair Chronicles - Unknown set

Part 1:

So here I go experimenting again. Tonight I have set my hair using hair combs, pincurls, and perm rods. I randomly set each in its place, but not quite blindly. While I don't know exactly how the sections will turn out, I placed each in it's place to achieve a particular effect. Will it work out... I am not sure. I spritzed water on my hair to dampen it and then ran a combo of pomade and shine serum. Will this help or hinder the after effect? I don't know, but we'll find out. Here is the set...

Part 2:
Well... it's the next day. My hair was still a bit damp when I woke up so I sat under the hair dryer for about an hour and then did my errands before I took it out. Here are some photos from the morning after sleeping on it. I did wear a scarf to bed over my set. Also some photos from the process of taking out the various parts of the set.

Part 3:
Well... my set was pure failure. I tried to brush something decent out but it just didn't happen. I think too much shine sheen is too blame. It just greased up and weighed down my hair. I like the wave in front though. I'll have to practice some more to really get a good wave built! So here is my hair for the evening. It's isn't at all what I wanted, but it will have to do. I don't have the time to rewash, dry, set, and style my hair. :(

We are having company over tonight to listen to old 78's... well they are. I'll probably be in la la land as music doesn't move me enough to just have a listening party.

My new hat!

Oh what a joy! I love my new hat! My honeybutt got this for me for Christmas! A sweet topper hat that I call Rosalind! Reminds me of the wonderful Rosalind Russell. Even Perry said it was very His Girl Friday! I can't wait to wear this little bit of joy out more. I an thinking it will go wonderfully with a nice sleek black suit! Perfect for a chilly lunch downtown!

This is the best photo I have of the hat. In the photo I am with our new friend, Jonathan at a local rockabilly event that was held this past Saturday.

The Public Enemy

I finally saw it! The Public Enemy with James Cagney and Jean Harlow. What a snore of a movie! I was bored out of my wits and couldn't wait for it to be over. I thought it was a drag and the story was lifeless. Not even my dear Jean Harlow could save this film for me. I love her, but her acting was pretty bad. Oy!

I think the only thing about this movie that made my eyes light up was this gorgeous coat dress that a gal wears to the speak easy!

I never found Cagney to be a good looking man -- and even still I have a hard time being attracted to him, but recently a friend pointed something out about him that does have me looking at him slightly differntly... with a bit of a tingle if you will. Cagney always looks as though he has a perverted thought about you in his head. His eyes gaze like he is thinking dirty things. In a conquering sort of way, not a desperation sort of way. I like that...

I wish I could have more to say about this flick, but I found it to be too boring for me to even slag off. I found the documentries in the special features to be better than the film itself. I was an interesting idea that the movie was a message movie, but even trying to see it with 1930's eyes, I was still left feeling empty. I am glad, however, that I was able to watch it.

Sexiest Hair

People who know a bit about me, know that I think that Charlie Chaplin had some of the sexiest hair ever. I think I may have found a head of hair that tops even his!

Recently I saw Paper Moon for the first time. Now Ryan O'Neal's hair in the film has me fantasizing about his sexy hair. I have always loved 30's men's style, but this is just too perfect! He is quite delicious in this movie on his own, but his hair really has me swooning!

It is going to be quite hard to find anything that gets me more excited than this do!

I'm no Gene Tierney

I am no Gene Tierney, but this hair style is highly inspired by her hair. From what I could tell, Gene's hair was usually styled in simple waves with big curls at the end. Not the tight fluffy curls that I like to wear. I managed to style my hair like this in less than 2 hours. 1 hour being under the bonnet dryer and 10-15 mins putting the perm rods in. The rest of the time was brushing, styling, and scultping. It is quite a simple do to achieve, but not knowing if it would turn out, I didn't happen to take photos of the process. It was really simple to do, so I may do a video tutorial of it soon.

Anyway... I am Lolita Haze Not Gene Tierney. LOL

And the Oscar goes to...

Lolita Haze!!!

For her portrayals in LUSH Snow Fairy and the 12 Pitfalls of Christmas.

Let me explain...

LUSH is having a video contest and this is my submission. I hope I win!

The 12 Pitfalls of Christmas are 12 shorts talking about 12 pitfalls that happen around the holidays. I am in 3 of the shorts. These 2 videos are 2 of the promos for the 12. I play Fiona, Santa's 1st wife. Now, I am a horrible actress and an even worse ad-libber which is what all these videos are. So please mock, laugh, and tease... I do! Hahaha at my face in the screen cap! Hahahaha

Happy Holidays!

Today I was playing photographer - taking photos of people, children, and pets all with Santa outside of Hollywood Regency Vintage! At 4pm Perry came by to pick me up, but before we packed it in for the day, I somehow convinced him to take a photo with me and Santa! Hah! I love it!

PS. I am not really sure why my fishnets are all scraggelly - cheapies I guess.

Celebrities then and now - Look-a-likes

Ever watch an old flick and think Hey! They remind me of *insert current celebrity*? It happens to me all the time. Unfortunately I can only remember 4 off the top of my head so here goes...

Bebe Daniels/Bebe Neuwirth

Oddly enough same first name, yet no relation. A friend pointed this one out to me and I have seen it ever since. They could be twins.

Ingrid Bergman/Debra Messing

I thought it since the 1st time I saw Casablanca about 5 years ago. To me they look like they could be family.

Ilona Massey/Kim Catrall

Not so much always as much as in this photo of Massey. Hello Samantha Jones!

Carmen Miranda/Sandra Bullock

If anyone were to play Carmen today, it would have to be Bullock. Not only does she physically remind me of Miranda, but I think he could opull off Miranda's high energy and cookiness -- without turning her into even more of an exaggeration of her character.

I know these are not the best comparision photos... give me a break... I just woke up! :-D

5 I don't and 5 I do.

Inspired by this post by Amy Jeanne, I thought I too would give my top 5 and my less than favourable 5.

Less than favourable 5
Betty Grable

I don't know what it is about her. I just never got her sex appeal. Granted her very very young photos she is gorgeous, but the 40's-50's Betty that most are familiar with - I just don't think is pretty.
*I used to date a guy that LOVED Betty Grable. We used to debate over who had better legs, her or Ginger*

Audrey Hepburn

Here is another beloved actress that I never "got". Though I'd kill to have her figure, I just didn't get why she was so popular.

Joan Crawford
(don't kill me Amy Jeanne)

Though I enjoyed her performance in The Women. I just could not and cannot like her. She was always a harsh personality that I just couldn't connect with.

Claudette Colbert

She looks like a pug to me. Quite frankly she is a bit tubby for me too. Quit your fatty hating comments. I don't care if you are fat or chubby, I am more attracted to slim figures. I never saw anything in her that I could like.

Veronica Lake

She rather bores me. I find her expressions lacking a persoanlity. She is just dull to me.

Now the 5 I LOVE!

Jean Harlow

Whiney, blonde, gold digging, and slutty. Am I decribing me or Jean? She was beautiful and fun. Enough said.

Ginger Rogers

She's spunky and cute. Although she is a bit more annoying when playing a brat than Jean, I still find her superb.

Barbara Stanwyck

I confess. I didn't like this lady at all. I found her atrocious in Lady of Burlesque and that pretty much left a sour taste in my mouth. Years later I watched Double Indeminity and Ball of Fire. She won me over. Perhaps I should give Lady of Burlesque another try.

Rita Hayworth

She's pretty and fun. Really do you need more to love her?

Esther Williams

I have never seen one of her movies, but damn is she gorgeous!!
