The trouble with living in Vegas...

Stolen from http://www.grayflannelsuit.net

The title of this blog is a little misleading. Truth is, I AM IN LOVE WITH LAS VEGAS!!! Vegas has brought me so much happiness and has welcomed me with open arms. It's like a mini New York with a sprinkling of Los Angeles and a hint of small town community. It really is great and I am looking forward to exploring the city more and more. (I may or may not have just watched a marathon of Sex and the City and may or may not be inspired to live my life more like Carrie.)

So while I really have nothing to complain about when it comes to my new hometown there is a slight difficulty to dressing even if that difficulty is superficial in the scheme of life.

The change of season has come around and autumn has been in the air for about two months now. The dip in the temperature is cold for my standards, however it isn't below freezing nor is it unbearable. This is where the trouble comes in!! Trying to pack up my spring/summer wardrobe has been a challenge. What exactly do I pack away until March when the weather is still warm enough for short sleeves and dresses with a simple coat on top? When the sun is shining and the air is warm, can you get away with wearing your summer fancies with leaves on the ground? Sure, pastel colors are for the most part out, but some of my wardrobe is still okay to wear. So what exactly do I pack away?!

Oh the trouble of living in Vegas.

I realize this post is a total humble brag. I apologize for that -- I am just trying to get back into the habit of blogging again. Since I miss it so much, but really have nothing to post about!

Lolita Haze by Minert Photography

Recently, I got back into doing some pinup "modelling". All I can say is BOY, AM I RUSTY!! I had a lot of fun and I realized that I missed playing pretend in front of the camera. I was a stiff turd for sure! Here is one of the first images to come from the shoot. This one is a bit darker than the rest, but one I like. Hope you enjoy!

Amber Joy's Pinup Pageant!

Last month I got to take part in the 1st Annual Pin Up Pageant put on by Amber Joy's Vintage Closet.

Unfortunately, I asked to host a bit too late, but I was happy that Amber found an active role for me as the Raffle Girl. :) Simply stating, I sold the raffle tickets and picked the tickets. Although I was the raffle girl, I did steal the microphone away from the host a few times. Sorry Scott!

I really had a blast and was honored to be part of such an amazing event that drew in 250 people and 20 pinup girls in the actual contest.

Celebrity Judges; Tom Ingram (Viva Las Vegas),  Cleen Rock One (Inkmasters), Cha Cha Velour (Live Burlesque in Las Vegas), Jasmine of Vintage Vandalizm, Dusty Summers (Burlesque Legend)
I was supposed to wear my Burlesque costume, but sadly couldn't find part of it, so I ended up just wearing a dress I had made a few years go. Even though I had brought heels to change into, I completely forgot about them and ended up staying in my jellies all night -- something my back was happy with. Plus the neon green actually matches the chartreuse in the print perfectly! Much better than trying to match the two different blues from the dress and my heels.

I have no idea why this face... perhaps I am super excited to be photographed with Tom Ingram...
Proprietress, Amber Burkhart, held her cool and looked beautiful through the night, though I know she was highly overwhelmed by taking on such a task of putting on her first pinup pageant! It's a lot more work than just showing up!

Proprietress Amber Burkhart

All the gals were gorgeous and were such a treat to watch as they both nervously and confidently strutted their stuff on the catwalk. Here are just a few of the pinups!

Congratulations to all the contestants and winners!

The 1st Amber Joy's Vintage Closet Pinup Pageant Winner!
Top 3 with the Judges
The fantastic vintage songstress, Lianna Haynes (red sparkled corseted dress) placed Top 5!

The winner with the Judges and Amber!
Top 5 with Amber (and Jasmine).
The selection of pictures was stolen from Amber's Facebook and they were all taken by DMR Depictions.

Thank you again, Amber, for having me part of your team for this truly spectacular event!

Perhaps I should enter next year with this winning Pinup Pose!

Pinup Hair and Makeup with Cherry Dollface

The class of Cherry Dollface's Pinup Hair and Makeup Class of Las Vegas!

This past Sunday, I was honored to be one of Cherry Dollface's hair models for her Pinup Hair and Makeup class here in Las Vegas. The class was being held at Amber Joy's Vintage Closet, a new vintage store in town.

I first met Cherry online many moons ago, back in LiveJournal days... remember those? However, it was this past Sunday that had me meeting her in person for the first time in probably 10-12 years since we first became familiar with each other online.

It's a LiveJournal Reunion!

Cherry was every bit of the doll she is in her videos and her class was amazing! I'm not going to lie. I consider myself a vintage hair Snobby McKnowitall, but Cherry's class has me learning things I didn't even know! So it just goes to show YOU CAN ALWAYS LEARN SOMETHING NEW! I highly recommend taking her class if she is in the area! She provides a welcoming atmosphere where girlfriends are just hanging out talking about hair and makeup. A great way to spend an afternoon if you ask me!

Myself along with Cherry's other model, Victoria "Burn".

Amber Joy's Vintage Closet was the perfect setting for the class. Talk about a hostess! She is every bit as beautiful on the inside as she is the outside. I look forward to finding myself back in her store in the near future.

Cherry used me as her victory rolls model and what a do it was!!

Thank you Cherry Dollface for having me as your model! You are a joy!

We're awesome!

Lolita Haze on the Bruce RADEL Show July 30th, 2014 at 6pm

Hey everyone!

Just taking a break from moving into my new place here in Vegas. FINALLY, I can FULLY settle in to Las Vegas residency! There is plenty of room here, which means I will be setting up my sewing room soon AND it will have a little corner for me to film my YouTube videos in! So look forward to that.

Before I get off subject, I just wanted to tell you that on Wednesday, July 30th, 2014 at 6pm (Pacific time) to head on over to BruceRADEL.com and tune in to hear all about taking it off. I will be joining Richardo Montalbum and Sweetie Bird (Brazil) on the internet radio program as we talk about my next show here in Las Vegas, Brunchlesque! and Burlesque in general.

Also, if you are currently in Las Vegas or will be on August 10th, 2014 -- come on out to Brunchlesque where you can get breakfast and Burlesque! Make sure you get your discounted advance tickets at Brown Paper Tickets. They will be going to full price soon!  I will be posting about Brunchlesque in another post.

In the mean time -- make sure you tune into The Bruce RADEL Show and if you have any questions about Burlesque or about me in general give the show a call and ask away! No question is off limits! You will find the phone number on the Bruce Radel website linked above. I would love to answer all your questions and if all goes well (and I seem to get a lot of inquiries) perhaps I will be invited back for another interview just by myself!

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you look forward to hearing me!!

I miss you guys!

Carrot Top at Luxor and Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay

Click on any picture to enlarge

This weekend my best friend, Amy from Duluth, MN came out to visit with her brother and sister in law. I always enjoy seeing Amy -- *even when we aren't at an Isaak show -- because we can be friends beyond Isaak*

Carrot Top at Luxor

The first night out the four of us caught Carrot Top's show at Luxor. Now I know what you are all thinking -- Really? Carrot Top? Yes, Carrot Top! I thought the same as everyone else. I had the same expectations of who Carrot Top was/is from a less than praised reputation and hear say alone. I expected his show to be stupid -- I mean it is Carrot Top, right? Wrong. I was wrong. Amy had said that she had seen his show before and really enjoyed it so I went in with an open mind. Let me tell you -- he puts on a great show! He was hilarious and not annoying. I unfairly expected him to be annoying. He was very personable and had a fun repertoire with his audience. This particular evening the front row was filled with about 10 guys from a bachelor party and it was fun seeing him engage with the sausagefest that was there. The show runs 1 1/2 hours, but breezed by. His show is the high paced bombardment of one line jokes and prop comedy, that you would expect from Carrot Top. Once I caught up to his energy and followed the rapid fire of jokes, I found that my smirk had turned into a full on smile and my chuckles turned into teary eyed laughter. It was however his finale that his showmanship came through. This is when he turned from comedian to entertainer. A montage of Rock Gods Glory. I don't want to give too much away so I shall leave it at that. Needless to say, I love true showmen and Carrot Top was a surprise for me. The biggest surprise however -- Carrot Top has a hot little body now! He buffed down and looks amazing! To sum up what to expect from his show -- it's light hearted and silly with a dash of dirty.  I recommend those in Vegas check out his show! My only disappointment is that I didn't opt to do the meet and greet and meet him!

Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay

photo shamelessly stolen from http://www.mandalaybay.com/shark-reef/aquarium/

The next day Amy and I spent the afternoon by ourselves. We went to Shark Reef in Mandalay Bay. We weren't expecting much, but we figured it was something to do that was near-by since I don't have a car to actually put us around. Shark Reef isn't a huge aquarium, but it was still a really fun time! It starts off with some smaller habitats for aquatic animals, like a crocodile and komodo dragon, and then moves into the inner water habitats. That is where the real fun begins -- little turns into BIG!

Amy and I were pleasantly delighted with how much we enjoyed the afternoon there. Seeing just how big some of these fish get is AMAZING! I didn't know how big sea turtles actually got! They were HUGE!

I believe Amy enjoyed the jellyfish and lion fish the most. I, however, am like a child when it comes to petting animals so my favourite part was being able to pet the stingrays and horseshoe crabs! *squee* If I could have pet the giant sea turtles I would have been in heaven!

While Shark Reef is one of the only family friendly places in Vegas -- we were a little bummed out that there were so many children and strollers there. We were hoping to enjoy the aquarium without the "joys" of the chillins of the world.

Over all, the Shark Reef was a very affordable way to enjoy a simple hour of your day in Las Vegas. A nice place to bring the kids -- IF you HAVE TO bring the kids to Vegas with you.

So until Amy visits again...
