I thought I would put together a video tutorial for the famous Betty Grable updo. It is in 2 parts, The Set and The Style. I've seen wonderful modernized variations on this style, but my tutorial is more focused on achieving an authentic do.
Let me know what you all think and if you try it... share photos!
Lolita, you are such a cutie!
ReplyDeleteI love the style, and can't wait to try it :)
Thanks for taking the time to do it.
SS... Aww Thanks! Post pictures when you do! I'd love to see how it works out on others.
ReplyDeleteAh, gorgeous! You have the BEST hair ever.
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial, I am so jealous that you still have lots of thick hair after bleaching. I have fine hair so when I started bleaching it made it even finer, now I have gone back to red! Will def try this style when it grows a bit more :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial!! I'm definitely going to try this in the summer when i want something more glamorous than my go-to style in hot weather: a pony tail.
ReplyDeleteVery informative! And a very cute hair-do!
ReplyDeleteBVV... Thanks, but let me tell you it is 80's fried right now. It's really a sad sight.
ReplyDeleteVintage Vicky... Thanks! Let me know how it turns out when you are able to try it out. That stinks about your hair getting thinner when you bleached it. Mine is about 1/2 as this as it used to be from breakage. :( It's no where near as full as it should be.
Wrecking Belle... Thanks so much. I completely forgot to say and demonstrate at the end to shape and define the curls into a wave pattern for a more polished look. I kinda just rushed through the end because I was already taking forever to talk about the styling. Let me know how it goes for you! I'd love to see pictures. :)
Isis... Thank you. I've said before, this is a hair do you have to own, otherwise it will completely own you.
I actually did this style for a play I was in about 5 years ago in Venice beach, and I rather enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out perfect! Now I wanna try it!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous !!!! I think you could share some of that hair with me though ............. hehe ............... I'm not sure that it will work with my fine hair but I will give it a whirl. Thanks for the instruction.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best videos I've seen so far. I really enjoyed it. You really have the style down, and I can't wait to try it myself. Congrats, lady!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I love your hair tutorials
ReplyDeleteI tagged you in the lovely blog award post here ( http://lenoralenoire.blogspot.com/2011/05/one-lovely-blog.html ) , I'm sure you've recieved it before though!
Georgia Kent... Do you have any photos? I would love to see it!
ReplyDeleteVintage Revival... Please share photos when you do!
Jaede... Hahaha you wouldn't want this hair. It's fried and dead. Kick kick kick... dead hairs. Its actually half as thick as normal. My hair is super gross right now. :-/ Perhaps you can post a modified version for finer hair. I think that would be great!
Lola LaShea... I am so glad you enjoyed it! Please share photos when you try it yourself. I forgot to demonstrate and mention at the end that you can gently brush and shape the curls after it's pinned into place. :)
Lenore Le Noire... Thank you so much for the award! I am so happy you enjoy the tutorials... I always feel chatty and boring! LOL Hopefully I am helpful along with being chatty! :)
I am stage kitten for a burlesque show Saturday week and I'm going to give it a try. Believe me my blonde locks are fried too.
ReplyDeleteOk I gave it a test run last night before the show on Saturday and I think it came out fine. Although Mike said I looked more like George Washington that Betty while the rollers were still in .......hehe ..........men ! I got lots of positive feed back while I was out. I have pics !!
ReplyDeleteJaede... OH! I can't wait to see it!!
ReplyDeleteLet me know the best way to send them to you !
ReplyDeleteCheck your FB... I sent you an email. :)

Awesome sauce. Going on a weekend getaway a' la hollywood romance with the hubby. Now I have the hairdo all taken care of. Thanks doll.
ReplyDeleteDo any of you have any tips on doing this without the hair combs? The issue with having the combs sitting in yoru hair is you don't have as much availability for moving around. My hair stylist did it for me with about 40+ bobby pins and I would love to see how it would work out process wise of getting all the bobby pins up there.
ReplyDeleteI love it, but do any of you have any step by steps on how to do this with plenty of bobby pins instead of the haircombs? You can't move around as much with hair combs and the style won't last as long. My hairstylist had done it for me with about 40+ bobby pins but I would love to see how it's done.
