William Powell

Prior to today, I have never seen a William Powell flick. I know his recognizable mug from many old Hollywood photos. I can't say I am much of a fan of his... I don't find him really attractive. Today I caught the end of Liable Lady where Powell co-stars with Myrna Loy and Jean Harlow. Perhaps it was his character in the film or something has simple as his hair, but I found him to be quite sexy in this film. I adore Jean Harlow, but don't know much about her... so finding out that she was dating him at this time and that he never got to propose marriage to her before she died made him just that more handsome. Cause he loved her and she is one of my favourites. :)

  1. You never saw The Thin Man?! Gosh, William Powell's Nick Charles is one of the reasons I've never been married--he ruined other men for me. :-(

WP wasn't classically good-looking, but he was soooo damn sexy (esp. w/Myrna Loy). I love him as an actor--I haven't read much about him as a man though. I know Carole Lombard (his former wife) made fun of him for reading the dictionary so he'd sound smart. As far as Jean goes, I don't think he wanted to marry her, and they say she'd gotten pregnant by him & he wouldn't marry her, so she had an abortion. I guess they might have married later, had she lived.

  2. Oh you MUST see "The thin man." Starring Willam Powell and Myrna Loy, as Nick and Nora, also the dog Asta is a Hollywood Icon as far as working animals go, very well trained. It is soo good. It's one of my favorites. It's out on DVD too so that makes it that much easier to get a hold of. Now I want to watch it.... Hope you get a chance to see it soon. Also there are many sequels but I have not seen them all.

  3. I can't believe you haven't seen "My Man Godfrey" with him and Carole Lombard. It is the BEST! I always liked him-he was such a down to earth fella, and a really good actor. I see a William Powell Film Festival in our future!

  5. A very late comment, but if you adore Jean Harlow, I hope you got to some of William Powell's other movies. The man had the hottest chemistry with all his leading ladies. He was the love of Harlow's life and treated her very well. If you have caught some more of his movies, you have got to appreciate how good looking and sexier the more you watch him. Their are some professional pictures of him from the 20s that are absolutely stunning.
