Vintage finds

My girlfriend and I found our way to a thrift store and I picked up some fun and random vintage linens. I am not into linens, per se, but I have found that I have somehow gotten more than I could imagine. When it comes to vintage, I have no knowledge on linens... so if any of you out there know anything, please feel free to share.

I picked up a cotton hankie and a silk scarf.
I also picked up 3 towels. My new job wants us to go green by bringing our own hand towels to use instead of using paper towel. Yay! Any excuse to use these vintage lovelies!

My favourite... what looks to me like a 30's half apron! I can't wait to bake something while wearing this!!!

I do have to clean these before I can use them, but I am CLUELESS! I want to just toss them in the wash... any tips before I do just that?

  1. Oh, I think you need to send me that apron since you missed my birthday.

Woolite, sink wash, follow directions on bottle. No dryer. Iron!

  2. check 'em closely for stains. amazing ammonia is safe for all machine-washables ~ place in a covered jar with ammonia & allow to set overnight or longer. Add to a washer load & launder normally. Before drier-drying, check for stains ~ if stains remain, air dry.

  5. Oh tips! hehe forgot. Woolite, Dont wash in your washingmachine. Cold water to. If you want a splash of warm do it for like a minute. Let it soak. Do it in sink. Then hang up and dry. I do that with my vintage linens! :D

  6. There's this great stuff called "Biz"...it's an enzyme cleaner and it eats anything protein-based (IE. food stains) and it works great on old linens!! Get the powder form and mix a bit with warm water, then soak your aprons, towels, etc. One bit of warning...since it "eats" proteins, don't use it on protein-based fibers like wool, silk, cashmere, etc. but for cottons and cotton/poly blends it's absolutely amazing!! I've seen it get out stains I thought were there permanently. I swear by it!

  7. Tayva... You'll have better things coming to you now. Pretty smelling goodness.

Anonymous... Awesome thanks! I don't have ammonia at the moment, so I ended up just hand washing for now. I'll pick some up next time I am out. Thanks!!

Julie... When I saw that apron I had to have it! Stupid too because I have 7 aprons right now already. I do use them, but far and few between. I didn't really need another one, but this is probably a better of the group.

Miss A... Thanks for the tips! I ended up just hand washing them this round, air drying and then ironing flat. I am super excited to bring my vintage towel to work. :)

MoMoDeluxeVintage... Hrmm... I do believe that I have seen Biz at the Dollar store. I'll have to pick some up next time I am out there. Thanks!

  13. I would handwash the apron and scarves, but tea towels throw them in the washer - otherwise how much use will they be! Love the print on the apron, so cute.

Miss Amethyst... SQUEE!! Thank you so much for both awards! You are the best!!!

Dollie DeVille... Thank you so much! I am so happy that you enjoy my blog! Sometimes I wonder about just how sane I sound on this thing. LOL

Porcelina... They did! Thank you. :) Oh you are amazing. thanks for thinking of me and the blog award. xoxox

Penny dreadful... I ended up hand washing it all. I think once I am over the fright of the towels I will just machine wash them too. Hehehe

AVintageRevival... Yay! I am glad you found me. :) However, you'll have to forgive me, I have a horrible memory, plus I see you are from Glendale. I want to make sure you aren't thinking of the gal who works for Matilda's Closet. Her and I are often mistaken for each other. She is definitely the prettier of us too. I am the more evil of us. Hahahaha.
