Spring is officially here, and what better way to celebrate than with a brand-new handmade sun top? I found some fat quarters at Walmart for $.97 a piece and wanted to challenge myself to see if I could make vintage inspired sun tops from what I picked up without knowing the yardage needed. I found this bunny print fabric that is playful, retro, and full of that sunshiney charm I just love.
This project was such a joy — simple, satisfying, and perfect for a little creative refresh. I used a repro Simplicity pattern that is classic with a feeling that is both timeless and totally pinup-perfect. Plus, who can resist a fabric covered in adorable little bunnies? I was thrilled that I was able to complete the top in time for Easter and wore it in my Easter photoshoot I will be posting soon (once I catch up on all my postings!)
I can’t wait to wear this top all season long — it’s like a little piece of sunshine stitched with love.
If you’d like to see the full process (and a few of my sewing adventures along the way), I filmed the whole thing for my YouTube channel! You’ll get a peek at how I made it from start to finish!
There's nothing quite like finishing a sewing project that feels like a dream! Beyond the stitches and seams, I also had the chance to step into the full spirit of this outfit with a little photoshoot. I wanted to capture all the charm and whimsy of this sunny look, and I’m so excited to finally share those photos with you. Think soft breezes, warm light, and a playful hint of retro daydreaming — exactly the vibe this sun top called for!
Until next time, stay sunny and sweet!
