Did anyone see Katy Perry's style at this year's AMA's? I know I am late to the game as I didn't watch the program, but I did find these photos of her on the net. I am wondering what you all think? One one hand I like Katy Perry (like, not love, not OMG GaGa love, not it's Madonna 'nough said love) I really like that she is a mainstream woman bring vintage style to the general public. Why some "vintage people" get all up in arms about her for her style or deny they have ever heard of her - I'm not buying that - I'll never know. Amy Jeanne, I know why you don't like her, but it has nothing to do with her lack of "authenticity" in vintage styling. I'm just bitching now, back to Miss Brand... I like the hair. In all honesty I think it is a well polished style. I see a lot of people try to go vintage and it is just a fail... messy, uneven, not quite right... but her hair style here is pretty darn well executed. The bangs could be freshened up, but I'll forgive her since I suck at faux bangs too. Hehehe Her dress is another matter for me -- I find it distracting and not in a good way, but I am posting this for her hair and nothing more. I know she wore her hair in another style(s) through out the night, but this was the most vintage.

Love it or Hate it?
I love it. Not only because of the style (which I couldn´t recreate if my life depended on it, sadly!) but also because of the colour. Candy pink looks quite good on her.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the color of her hair and those dress is awfull, but her hairstyle are not bad.
ReplyDeleteThe color and style are great-I wouldnt combine the two but then again I am not in my 20's LOL I like that she is attempting to bring to the younger generation a little of past. She is doing it by blending today withh yesterday-cute-not my fave of her but cute :) xox
ReplyDeleteLove her hair, even if it is pink! Nicely done and very flattering.
ReplyDeleteSusan
I love it! Reminds me of a Bette Grable 'do.
ReplyDeleteA little too severe for my tastes but she pulls it off
ReplyDeletelove it - very Veda looking
ReplyDeleteI think I like it, but with a different dress.
ReplyDeleteit's kind of cool. she overdoes it a bit though.
ReplyDeletelove it!!! its vintage with a pink girly twist to it!! i love it
ReplyDeleteI guess it's alright because it goes with her dress, but I'm not exactly rushing over to my bathroom mirror to figure out how to manipulate my v-rolls into that shape.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence :/ I love the look she was going for, but I'm not a fan of it with that dress & I think the stylist could have done the bangs a tweak better BUT, A+ for trying it though! There's no way I could have pulled that style off by myself (it's really wicked amazing though when done just "PERFECT" so kudos to her!)
ReplyDeleteI love it, love the colour, love how she mixes vintage with modern (not really this look, but some others she has done in videos). I love that she helps people 'get' what other more extreme vintage dressers like us do - rather than having people look at me and say 'freak!' in their mind I actually get the sense that they appreciate it more when they have a reference point like Katy that helps them understand the look.
ReplyDeleteEeek!! Too much pink!!! *gags* The dress is very Jetson's. I like the back and sides of her hairstyle but I feel like the front is just a wee bit too high on her forehead.
ReplyDeleteLove the hair, hate the dress. I don't like her music, or some of her outfits but when she does vintage/modern twisted pinup I think she looks great! I loved the photo spread she did in InStyle a couple of months ago-try to find it and check it out-very 40s noir inspired.
ReplyDeleteThe hairstyle looks hella weird with that dress. Not sure if I like that hairstyle at all... it's too matronly.
ReplyDeleteI love the pink, though!
It's such a miss mash the overall effect is terrible! I like elements though... the bottom half of her dress is lovely and the colour of her hair is good, but the style?! Not a good version of V rolls and bangs. Only makes me think of Gary Oldman in Dracula! ;)
