I just got a FANNY-TASTIC hat from Hollywood Regency here in Phoenix. It is a black felt 40's hat. Now I am super excited about this one and I really wish to wear it as much as possible! Now... only thing is that it is spring/summer season here in Phoenix. Why is that a problem you ask, well the black felt seems a bit too warm for the sunny months ahead. I tried on the hat while wearing my brown wool suit jacket with fur trim that I wear in the cooler months and it looked marvelous! Splended! Like they belonged together. That is great and all, but < insert whine here > I really want to wear it NOW! And in the daytime! Can anyone post examples of black felt haits being worn in the sunnier months with sunshine daywear? Thanks!
Perhaps if you were to dress it up with a pink pastel ribbon or silk flower in the back, or were to wear it with a sunny breszy cotton summer dress with black trim on the short sleeves and pocket and a scarf with a touch of black? It does have a very winter feel, but that could be due to the fur coat (which I love, by the way, I adore my vintage fur I got this year for valentines day from hubby). If you can stand the heat, you can pull it off. You know I love pink and black together and that has a very spring/summer feel. How about a pink silk rose worn in your hair at the front so it shows up in front of the black upraised bring, that would be loverly.
ReplyDeleteOh... that is a good idea... I like the pink dress with black trim or accents. I am seeing the cuffs of a dress black and black bow accents. You are brilliant! I don't know why I didn't think of that myself! Der!
ReplyDeleteI bet your fur is fantastic!
I wear my black hats in teh summer, they are not felt.. but, I wear black mostly always, so I always need a black hat :)
ReplyDeleteBut, i live in the pacific northwest. its always damn cold here. soo....
I think here it is a bit too harsh in the daytime. I think we have already reached the 90's!
ReplyDeleteGotta be careful wearing that baby in the red hot broiling summer sun, as it may fade. Those old dyes are really unstable sometimes. BUT-I love the above pink/black idea for it! I remember when we got that hat in the shop-I always had it pegged for you. I knew it was yours and it would look perfect with the blonde hairs!
ReplyDeleteOh I am so jealous. It's fantastic! I need to acquire myself some hats - I have 0.
ReplyDeleteRHSadie... Thanks for the pointer! I didn't even concider fading! I probably wouldn't wear it as much as I like though, because I would only have the one dress!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to wear it! It's Ridiggy!
Fleur... I think stockings and hats are my favourite thing to wear vintage-wise. Even more so than dresses and red lips! Go get some hats on that head of yours! Make sure you measure your head though, one size does NOT fit all as I have found out from some impulse purchases.
