Pretty Little Things

A couple of weeks ago, I acquired a small bounty of Pretty Little Things! A couple came from an estate sale, but most came in my belated Birthday package from my Mommie Dearest.

A suitcase full of Pretty Little Things! (Not shown the sewing notions my Mom sent me.) Click on any photo to enlarge.

Sometimes it is the stupidest things that bring you the most excitement. For me it was the plastic glove dryers that aid in the washing and drying of your hand gloves! I picked these up at an estate sale and thought of the MANY gloves I have, but fail to wear as often as I should! It's one of those needless things that I really don't need right now, but I just had to have them!!

Two more delightful treats I bought at the estate sale were the pink and blue silk scarf (as seen in the suitcase picture) and the rhinestone clip on earrings. I think I buy rhinestone earrings like others do bakelite bracelets! I have a decent size collection. Not as massive as some people have, but enough that  each time I pick up a new pair I ask myself, do I really need yet another pair? The answer is always yes.

Speaking of stupid things that make you the happiest. There were two things out of the entire box of goods that my Mom sent me that were my favourites! Firstly and sadly has no picture, is a vintage (60s?) Tassel Maker in package! I knew when she picked this up she giggled to herself. While it is meant for decorative tassels I know she thought I could use it for my boobie tassels! I really love that my Mom is supportive of my Burlesque career. There are many others who don't have that blessing. That however is another post entirely! The second thing that I loved the most was the novelty Ouiji Board tin for mints! The witchy side of me just hearts the spooky and macabre things in life so this trinket put a smile on my face! I think I want to keep fresh mints and gum in it and stash it in my Burlesque bag for performance nights when I mingle with the guests! I am notorious for being without gum/mints and it just increases my paranoia of bad breath!

You can also see the two slips she sent me, one in pink lace and one in black lace. I want to keep both, but I think the black one may be too long as it is a 50s/60s era slip. I may have to sell it. We'll see.

So what is that pretty little leopard print thing you see? Why it is a powder puff of course! Yes, now I can puff my powder with the most glamorous pats.

Because I am the Vintage Starlet, my Mom likes to send me vintage glamour related kitsch. In this case these note cards. While you can't see it in this picture, she sent me a note pad that says, "I'm too busy being fabulous for this to do list." I think that is why I have a terminal case of the lazies. It's all because of my affliction of fabulousness! You can see the note pad a bit better in the suitcase picture above.

I have to admit... the huge box she sent me was mostly treats for my boys, Bonzai and Samurai. She loves those shibas and they love their Nana. She sent me this frame which says, "Your Little Boys". I am now trying to figure out how to set up a photo shoot with my cheepo cheepos!

Some other little trinkets she picked up for me are these two thimbles which you can't see very well. One has a leave design all around with a hinged thatched roof that flips open to reveal the top of the thimble. The other is a simple floral etched design. I cannot make out the marks on either and I don't know much about thimbles, but I will happily add them to my sewing notions collection. Lastly, this little gold pin with rhinestone center. A simple, but elegant way to add a little sparkle to your outfit.

Unfortunately, I forgot to photograph the bag of sewing notions that she sent me. There are some pretty ribbon and crocheted lace that I hope to use on future sewing projects. She also sent me a sewing book from the 60s and tracing papers which I will use most definitely!

If you made it this far, I want to say thank you for taking the time to share with me my newest treasures.  Some are silly and fun and some are real gems, but all of them are loved.

Now that I showed you mine, how about showing or telling me yours! I'd love to see or read about the newest Pretty Little Things that you all have gotten lately!

A Special Something from Somethin' Special

I have to say that this post is long over due! You see, all my excitement about this post started way back in November!

When my favourite small business of sweet smelling goodies was having contest to win a small sample of EVERY SINGLE ONE of their scents I knew I had to enter!! I don't normally enter contests because I never win, but this time I am glad I did as I won!!

Sue Faunt is the owner/maker/awesome lady that runs Somethin' Special. I have purchased goodies from her previously and I am always happy with the products and service she provides. My favourite thing to buy from her store are her soy tarts. In the past I have bought a small handful of tarts from her in various scents, but as a general rule I'd always have her Toffee Sugar Crunch on hand. Now, Sue will never admit it, but I think she puts some bewitching powers in her tarts along with the great scents. Every time I decide to warm the soy tarts I go into a cleaning frenzy! I don't know what it is, but the delicious fragrances that fill the house suddenly make me want to clean the house from top to bottom. Talk about a fantastic motivator!

With over 200 different scents she offers, this was a great contest to win!! You can imagine my delight when I received the email saying that I had won!! I really couldn't believe it. I received my package very quickly and took to smelling the vials almost immediately. I thought for sure I would be able to breeze through all the scents, but it actually took me a few days to smell each and every one! There were so many scents it was quite overwhelming. I knew I wanted to try to make a blog post about this win with the basis of a "Top 10 Scents", however that proved to be very difficult! It took me many elimination processes to narrow it down and even then I could only get it down to 14! I think of the 200+ scents I was sent, there were only 2 that I didn't like in the slightest, a small handful that I didn't think were that great, but I didn't hate them, however most were a sheer pleasure to my senses!

There really is a scent for everyone in her shop! There are sweet/candy scents (my personal favourites), food, pine, Earthy, floral, cologne/perfumes, sea fair, holiday, fresh and clean, strong, light, and for your vanilla lovers -- so many varieties of vanilla!! She has great dupes of your favourite scents out there as well! There are many more scents, but you get the idea!

I'd like to share with you my Top 14 scents from Somethin' Special. In no particular order...

The best part about having all these great scents is now I know what I want to order for whatever mood I am in! I don't want to use up all my fragrances by using them creatively, though I easily could, I like to have my own little scent sample reference section.

However, there are a couple of ways I do enjoy using them sparingly (until I order more product or fragrance). Being that I live alone and spend most of my time at home with just my dogs and no one to impress, I anoint a little bit of the oil on my pulse points just so that I can get ninja whiffs of the sweet yummy goodness! Its just the right hint of scent for yourself without being overwhelming like a perfume. Especially when you are alone. My other favorite way to use the oil I found out by complete accident. I took a small bottle that I had previously added the oil to to use as a spritzer for the air and didn't wash it out before I added my setting lotion mixture into it to travel to BurlyCon with. This added a great scent to setting lotion and mentally made me feel even more feminine/pretty when I would set my pin curls! So now I add a touch of scented oil to the bottle every time I refill my setting lotion spray. It's the small things that make me happy I tell you!

Please check out Somethin' Special! You can also find her on Etsy and you can read more about her and her goods on her blog! If you enjoy supporting small businesses this is a great one to support! Since we all enjoy community, when you order, please tell Sue you found her through me, Lolita Haze and this blog, Vintage Starlet! Thanks everyone!

Pre-Listing Goodies from Heidi's Regency Vintage

Hi everyone! I hope your weekend has been grand! I found a couple vintage treats for you glamour-pusses out there! For those of you that may not know, I like to offer up new goodies for sale at a pre-listing discount to my readers on various medias. Normally I do this on Facebook and Instagram (which I cannot access at the moment), but since I am getting back into blogging, I thought I would start doing it here as well!

It is simple! If you see something you like simply comment with "Interested", name which item you are interested in, and ask any questions you may have about the items. I will reply to all inquiries and it will go by first come, first serve. Keep in mind I do this on a few medias, so while you may be the first one interested here, there may be someone in line before you on Facebook or Twitter or where ever else I post. All comments are welcomed, just make sure you write INTERESTED if you are wanting to purchase. Comments without the word INTERESTED will be assumed as just comments.

I tend to keep the Pre-Listing up for a day or two before I officially post it to my etsy store, Heidi's Regency Vintage. Once I post to my store the pre-listing discount is no longer valid and will be sold at full price. When it does officially enter my store I will make an EDIT to this post with direct links so you can purchase there if you missed the Pre-Listing Sale.

Please take a quick look at my policies here. Thank you.

Now on to the Vintage Goodies!! Click on any photo to enlarge it for better detail!

White and Crystal Rhinestone Earrings

WOW!! Would you get a load of these!! These are gorgeous earrings from the 1950s/1960s, but I am seeing so many more things to do with them then just wearing them on your ears! These earrings are big enough to wear as dress clips or add a chain from one to the other and now you have sweater clips! Or with a little help from a bobby pin or two, wear them in your hair for added glam! I see a bride wearing these! Earrings are marked "ART"

Speaking of magazines...

My Dear Mom sent me a box full of magazines. Most of them were old (years old) Reminisce and Good Old Days magazines, but a small handful were actual vintage old.

She sent me two Good Housekeepings from '48 and '49, a Popular Photography issue from '57, two Literary Digests one from '33 and one from '35,  two Times one from '43 and one from '45, and my favourite Automobile and Trailer Travel Magazine from '41.

These are going to give me some good reads. As much as I love sugar coated fluffy bunnies and superficial entertainment guilt, it will be nice to give myself some historic education for things beyond cinema and fashion of the 30s and 40s!

As always your comments are loved and appreciated!
